Damaris came to Mimi’s with a photo of a gown on her phone, determined to find it. Fortunately for her, Mimi’s not only carried the designer of the gown but had recently received that particular gown for the store. It was the first gown she tried on and probably the only gown she wanted to try on, but to be absolutely certain Damaris went through the process of trying dress after dress. But it was that very first one, that she wanted from the start, which ended up being her gown. It was ‘Jo’ by Augusta Jones, a fitted through the hips a-line gown, all lace, low back with tattooed lace sleeves, neckline and back; a modern twist on a classic look.
Andre grew up here in Michigan and attended The University of Michigan where he studied Aerospace Engineering. Almost 4,000 miles away Damaris grew up in Lima, Peru, until she moved to Michigan where she attended Oakland University studying Graphic Design. The two met at a Halloween party. They ended up hanging out together for most of the party and that’s where their friendship began. It was later on that their friendship blossomed into a romance.
Damaris and Andre went out for dinner one Valentine’s Day. When the waiter came by around dessert time, Damaris was told to close her eyes in order to receive a surprise. When she re-opened her eyes a plate had appeared in front of her with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ inscribed on it and Andre holding out a ring. Damaris began to cry tears of joy and, of course, she said yes!
Their ceremony was held at St. Anastasia Church in Troy, Michigan with a reception following at Palazzo Grande in Shelby Charter Township. The couple chose this venue for their reception because they had only heard good things about it and when they saw the space they could see it was a beautiful setting for a wedding.
“Everything went so fast […] We had a wonderful time with our families and friends. We just enjoyed being with them.”
We’ve got quite a few words of wisdom to future brides from Damaris:
She recommends making sure the photographer has a list of the photos you really want to see taken. Also, prepare a schedule for the day and delegate someone to be in charge of it.
“No matter what happens on THAT day, just enjoy it!”
